Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Post Date:09/16/2013

Norfolk Public Library (NPL) explores the richness and diversity of Hispanic and Latino American history, culture, and traditions with special events from September 15 to October 15, 2013.

Hispanics and Latinos are now the largest racial minority in America, comprised of roughly 50.5 million people — about 16.3 percent of the total U.S. population. Hispanic Heritage Month is a great time to expose the family to world traditions, and to find books from NPL’s Hispanic Heritage Month booklist for your family’s enjoyment and education.

Events will include a feature program at the Mary D. Pretlow Anchor Branch Library presented by the Todd Rosenlieb Dance Company. Also in the lineup are concerts with local Salsa band Tumbao Salsero, food tastings hosted by Degollado Mexican Restaurant in Norfolk, and Panamanian folkloric dance performances at libraries throughout the city.

Hispanic Heritage Month events are suitable for all age groups, and are free and open to the public. Visit the website at www.npl.lib.va.us/HHM for program updates and to obtain a booklist.
