Sonal Rastogi Named Library Director
On Monday, October 14, 2013, City Manager Marcus Jones announced that Sonal Rastogi, Acting Library Director will serve as Director of Libraries for Norfolk Public Library (NPL). Mr. Jones made the announcement at the Library’s Annual Staff Training Day.
“Sonal has a wonderful history with the library system,” said Marcus Jones, City Manager. ”From her early days as a volunteer, Sonal has demonstrated a passion for helping residents reach their full potential through programs and services offered at our libraries. I’m pleased to have her on the team.”
“I am very thankful and excited for this position, and I look forward to serving the community in this new capacity,” said Rastogi.
Rastogi began her career with NPL in October 1995. She has served in several positions, and in 2006 became the Assistant Director of Libraries. Rastogi was named Acting Library Director in July 2013 when the former library director retired.
Rastogi is treasurer of EMIERT (Ethnic Multicultural Information Exchange Round Table), a roundtable division of American Library Association. She is also a member of the Public Library Association and the Virginia Library Association. She holds master’s degrees in Library Science from The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., and Public Administration from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA.
