Exclusive Youth Pilot Program Launched

Post Date:11/08/2013

UMIGONorfolk Public Library (NPL) is excited to be one of three libraries in the country selected to pilot a program in children’s math education called UMIGO™ (You-Make-It-Go). The program is funded by the company UMIGO™ and a grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Ready to Learn Initiative.

The primary goal of UMIGO is to increase student achievement in math for early learners in grades K-2. UMIGO offers a unique “Maker Math” approach to learning which addresses a wide range of early math concepts and skills such as number sense, addition and subtraction. Terri Raymond, NPL Youth Services Coordinator, says “We are really excited to be part of the UMIGO project since it focuses so heavily on math skills for young children. Our selection as one of three library systems in the country to be involved is a direct result of being a Family Place Library.”

Materials such as interactive games, videos, books, board games and mobile apps will be used to engage children in the exploration of mathematical ideas and concepts in fun and engaging ways. Below is a list of program dates and library locations.

Math is made FUN with this new and innovative program! Join UMIGO™ characters Dizzy, Bean and Bit to learn more about math concepts such as addition and subtraction through interactive games, videos, books and more. (Ages 5-8)
