As you pledge your goals for 2016, be sure to include trips to the Norfolk Public Library (NPL)! It’s true that old habits die hard, but NPL’s knowledgeable and friendly staff can help you accomplish your New Year’s resolutions, from fitness and financial goals, to mapping out your family tree and learning something new. The library offers hundreds of programs and classes each quarter, and has a wealth of resources readily available online and in the 13 locations, free with your library card.
If one of your resolutions is to be more civic-minded, join us for TREK for Civility Week from January 16-24. All libraries will host special events centered on the virtues of tolerance, respect, empathy and kindness. As part of All-NPL Reads and the week-long TREK celebration, New York Times best-selling author Christina Baker-Kline will visit to discuss her book, “Orphan Train.” Meet the author on Tuesday, January 19 from 7-9 p.m. at the Slover Library. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
Make a difference at NPL and in the community by becoming a Friend of the Norfolk Public Library. Joining is easy, go to www.norfolkpubliclibrary.org/friends or email email@example.com. Save the date for the Friends’ spring Books and Brew event on Saturday, April 23 from 6-9 p.m. at the Pretlow Anchor Branch Library. Enjoy food, music, wine and brew, and a book swap!
Whip your finances into shape during April with a variety of Money Smart Week events. There will be classes at multiple locations to help you develop strategies to save money, including the Secrets of Extreme Couponing with Laura of “A Frugal Chick,” and how to use NPL’s eResources such as Mergent online.
Norfolk Public Library’s 17-year-old Bookmobile has served us well but is in need of replacing. The NPL Foundation is launching a capital campaign for the purchase of a new Bookmobile. Proceeds from the 2016 Norfolk Historical Calendar sales will go toward this campaign. For more information about the Bookmobile and how to donate, go to www.norfolkpubliclibrary.org/Bookmobile.
There are many ways NPL can help you succeed to make 2016 a great year! Stay current with library happenings by visiting the website often, and be sure to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!
See you at the Library!
